Outdoor backless benches have always been a favorite type of garden furniture. There are many styles, sizes and uses — making the backless bench an excellent choice for any garden, landscape, patio or anywhere extra seating is desired. There are so many materials available and pricing options making the backless bench choice simple.

First things first. I needed to remove all the dead leaves and brush that had accumulated over the winter months. Next I went all around searching to see what survived and what needed help with some tender loving care. Gently and lovingly working many hours I revived some plants and added many different kinds of colorful flowers and vegetation.

After completing this task my front and back yard shined with brilliance and beauty but it still felt like something else was needed. Looking around, my walls and fence seemed to be dull and bare. How could I make them part of this theme and complete the picture that I was after? Realizing that inside my home I had adorned the walls with numerous wall décor, why couldn’t I continue with the same artistic qualities outside.

Whatever the choice, before a homeowner even leaves the driveway to go shopping for lighting, they need to take a critical look at the yard they plan on lighting both during the day and at night.  We will cover the reason why a little later.  For now, let us first consider what our homeowner needs to account for prior to making the lighting purchase.

Not having a back is what makes this bench so versatile. Use it in your landscapes as an accent piece for additional beauty or as the main focal point and build your garden around it. By the pool or pond, a backless bench will not block or obstruct your scenery and it gives you the option to face either direction for full visual access.

Once you have decided on your macro lighting needs, it is time to look at it from a micro point of view, or basically, take a finger count of how many lights you may need, and whether they will broadcast a downward spray of light, an upward light stream, or a combination of both.  Note:  You do not have to actually use your fingers to count, unless you use your toes as well.  Try a pad of paper and pen.  I guarantee it will be easier.  Here is the key:  Be cautious not to over illuminate your yard, for the benefit of your electricity bill if you go with electric lights, and because you do not want to go over the top with your lighting.  For that matter, there is no need to.  Your lighting should be subtle, yet add enough of an impact for safety reasons and to supply a nice glow to your property overall at night.  You will appreciate the results, and so will your neighbors.

If you’re stumped for a unique gift, this is one of-a-kind and will be cherished for life especially if he or she is a garden enthusiast. Have an inspirational saying with the persons name engraved and you will be remembered always.
